ISLAMIC EDUCATION FOR PEACEFUL AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETIES: INTEGRATING ISLAMIC EDUCATIONAL VALUES WITH UNESCO'S GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION FRAMEWORK

This study explores the contribution of Islamic education to the development of peaceful and inclusive societies by integrating Islamic educational values with UNESCO's Global Citizenship Education (GCED) framework. Employing a qualitative library research design through an integrative literature review and conceptual analysis, the study synthesizes classical Islamic educational thought, contemporary scholarship, and UNESCO policy documents. The findings reveal a strong convergence between Islamic educational values—such as justice, compassion, moderation, human dignity, and social responsibility—and the cognitive, socio-emotional, and behavioral competencies promoted by GCED. Based on this convergence, the study proposes the Integrated Islamic Global Citizenship Education (I-IGCE) Framework, which positions Islamic ethical principles as a foundation for peacebuilding, intercultural dialogue, inclusive citizenship, digital responsibility, and sustainable development. The framework contributes to contemporary Islamic educational discourse by bridging religious educational philosophy with global educational policy, particularly Sustainable Development Goal 4.7. It also provides practical guidance for curriculum development, teacher education, and educational leadership to strengthen the role of Islamic education in fostering ethical, responsible, and globally engaged citizens.
