RECONSTRUCTING MUQADDIMAH ILM AL-LUGHAH AL-'ARABIYYAH AS AN EPISTEMOLOGICAL FOUNDATION FOR CONTEMPORARY ARABIC LANGUAGE LEARNING

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the epistemological foundation of Muqaddimah Ilm al-Lughah al-'Arabiyyah as a conceptual framework for contemporary Arabic language learning. Employing a qualitative library research design, the study critically examines classical and contemporary literature on Arabic linguistics, language education, and Islamic educational thought to identify the essential principles of Muqaddimah Ilm al-Lughah al-'Arabiyyah and their relevance to modern pedagogy. The analysis reveals that the discipline provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding the nature, functions, characteristics, and development of the Arabic language while integrating linguistic knowledge with communicative competence and cultural understanding. Furthermore, the study proposes an epistemological reconstruction that connects traditional Arabic linguistic scholarship with competency-based education, communicative language teaching, and student-centered learning. The reconstructed framework emphasizes conceptual understanding, language proficiency, critical thinking, and contextual language use as interconnected dimensions of Arabic language education. This study contributes to the advancement of Arabic language pedagogy by offering a contemporary theoretical framework that bridges classical linguistic heritage with the educational demands of the twenty-first century.
