DELAYED SALARY PAYMENT FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HADITH: A STUDY OF JUSTICE AND THE PROHIBITION OF OPPRESSING WORKERS

This study discusses delayed salary payment from the perspective of hadith by examining the principles of justice, amanah, and the prohibition of oppressing workers. Delayed salary payment remains one of the problems in modern employment relations, both in formal and informal sectors. In Islam, wages or salaries are not merely economic compensation, but workers’ rights that must be fulfilled by employers according to the agreed terms. This study uses a qualitative approach with a library research method. The main data of this study consist of two hadiths related directly to workers’ rights: the hadith narrated in Sunan Ibn Majah No. 2443 concerning the command to pay workers before their sweat dries, and the hadith narrated in Sahih al-Bukhari No. 2270 concerning the warning against those who employ workers but do not pay their wages. The findings show that hadith provides a strong ethical foundation that workers’ salaries must be paid on time. Delaying salary payment without a valid reason is a violation of trust, injustice, and oppression against workers. The hadiths also emphasize that employers have moral and spiritual responsibilities to fulfill workers’ rights. Therefore, hadith values concerning wages can serve as an important foundation for building fair, humane, and responsible employment relations.
